Why Smoked Cream Cheese Belongs on Your Charcuterie Board

Versatile – Spread it on crackers, dip veggies in it, or pair it with fruit.

Easy to Make – Only a few ingredients and minimal prep.

Customizable – Use your favorite rub and topping for a personalized touch.

Unexpected Wow Factor – Guests will love the smoky twist on a classic.

 Smoked Cream Cheese Recipe

 Ingredients:

– 2 (8 oz) blocks of full-fat cream cheese

– 1-2 tbsp of your favorite sweet or savory rub (Tropical zinger and Honey Sriracha Garlic)

– 1-2 tbsp topping (e.g., Scotch Bonnet Chili Crisp and Blueberry preserves)

– Crackers, bread, or sliced baguette for serving

 Instructions:

  1. Prep the Cream Cheese – Score the top of the cream cheese block in a crosshatch pattern (about ¼-inch deep) to allow the smoke and seasoning to penetrate.
  2. Season generously – Coat the entire block with your chosen rub, pressing gently so it sticks.
  3. Smoke It – Preheat your smoker to 225°F and use a mild wood like apple or cherry for a sweeter smoke flavor. Place the cream cheese directly on the grill grates or in a small aluminum pan.
  4. Smoke for 1.5-2 Hours – The cream cheese will soften slightly and absorb a beautiful smoky flavor.
  5. Add the Finishing Touch – Drizzle with honey, pepper jelly, or your favorite topping while still warm.
  6. Serve & Enjoy! – Place it on your charcuterie board and let guests dig in with crackers or bread.

How I Did It?

For the blocks that I smoked, I seasoned one with my Tropical Zinger dry rub and the other with Honey Sriracha Garlic Rub from Ninjacue.com. I decided to smoke these for around 1 ½ – 2 hours. I topped the block with the Tropical Zinger, and I topped it with the blueberry preserves. I felt like the bright, fresh, and appropriately spiced blend pairs well with the preserves due to the citrus notes that are very present. The other block was topped with the scotch bonnet chili crisp. The bold sriracha garlic flavor was well-balanced with the honey. I thought this would pair very well with the spicy crisps and a drizzle of oil for a bit of depth and complexity. The guests devoured these two blocks of cream cheese in no time.

 Flavor Pairing Ideas:

– Sweet & Smoky – Brown sugar rub + honey drizzle

– Spicy & Sweet – BBQ rub + pepper jelly

– Savory & Herby – Everything bagel seasoning + hot honey

 Building the Ultimate Charcuterie Board

Now that your smoked cream cheese is ready, build a well-balanced board with:

– Cheeses: Aged cheddar, brie, gouda

– Meats: Prosciutto, salami, chorizo

– Sweet Elements: Fresh grapes, figs, dried apricots

– Savory Additions: Olives, nuts, pickles

– Crackers & Bread: Baguette slices, water crackers, crostini
